Monthly maintenance checklist for your Crownline

Keeping your Crownline boat in top condition not only improves safety and performance, but also protects your investment and maximises its resale value. With a proper monthly maintenance plan, you can detect minor breakdowns early, extend the life of critical components and ensure smooth sailings. In this guide you will find a detailed monthly maintenance checklist. In addition, we remind you that if you prefer to delegate, our maintenance service is at your disposal.

Engine and propulsion overhaul

The engine is the heart of your Crownline. A quick monthly check-up includes:

Fluid testing

  • Engine oil: Levels between min/max marks; replacement every 100 h or 6 months.
  • Coolant: Clear colour and optimum level; if you see particles, bleed the circuit.
  • Transmission oil (inboard): Check level and consistency; if it smells burnt, change.

Fuel system

  • Water separator filter: Drains the bottom of the vessel; removes water and sediment.
  • Lines and fittings: Inspect for leaks or stiffness. Replace cracked sections.

Impellers and belt

  • Water impeller: Check condition of blades; replace every season according to manual.
  • Timing belt: Correct tension and no cracks. Recommended replacement every year.

Electrical systems and electronics

A proper electrical check prevents navigation failures:

Batteries

  • Voltage: Must read ≥12.4 V at rest.
  • Terminals: Cleaned and greased with dielectric vaseline.
  • Smart charger: Keep the battery afloat if the boat is stationary.

Instrumentation and navigation

  • GPS/Plotter screen: Updates cartography and firmware.
  • Navigation lights: Turn on headlights, anchor lights and saloon lights to validate operation.
  • VHF radio and AIS: Broadcast/Call check; range check.

Wiring and fuses

  • Panel fuses: Check that they are not blown.
  • Visible wiring: No abrasions or cuts. Replaces poorly insulated splices.

Hull and deck care

Hull and deck maintenance improves hydrodynamics and protects against corrosion:

General cleaning

  • Fresh water rinse: After each outing, removes saltpetre and sand.
  • Specific soap for boats: Avoid abrasives that deteriorate gel coat.

Antifouling and condition of the living structure

  • Antifouling inspection: Check for algae and barnacle build-up.
  • Reapplication of antifouling paint: Every 6-12 months depending on sailing area and frequency of use. More info in our Antifouling service.

Fittings and accessories

  • Bolts and screws: Tighten cleats, handrails and deck screws.
  • Hatches and latches: Lubricate hinges and check sealing to prevent leaks.

Bilge and bilge system

Bilge water must be evacuated immediately to avoid damage:

Bilge pumps

  • Monthly test: Activate the electric pump and the manual pump; check flow rate and absence of abnormal noise.
  • Inlet grille: Cleans out leaf debris or sediment clogging.

Drying and leak detection

  • Visual inspection: Look for traces of moisture or oil in the bottom of the bilge.
  • Add some clean water: Check for possible water ingress through joints.

On-board safety and comfort

Check every safety feature for peace of mind:

Waistcoats and harnesses

  • Condition of straps and buckles: No tears or corrosion.
  • Approval in force: According to SOLAS or ISO standards.

Fire extinguishers and first aid kit

  • Extinguishers: Correct pressure and valid expiry date.
  • First aid kit: Basic supplies (gauze, dressings, antiseptics) in good condition.

Distress signals

  • Flares and rockets: Check expiry dates on handheld flares and illuminated rockets.
  • Waterproof lantern: Batteries charged and bulb working.
